OU Men is an informal gathering of men who attend Unity of Olympia. The focus of the group is three fold; first is to share through spiritual growth, next is to be of service to our community and lastly to enjoy each other’s company doing fun things.

Through our sharing, learning, service and social activities we have the opportunity to get to know, at a deeper level, fellow Unity members. We provide a safe environment for building trust and lasting friendships. Please consider joining us, we would love to welcome you!

Our meetings are scheduled for the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 8:00am:

    River's Edge Restaurant

    4611 Tumwater Valley Golf Course

    Tumwater WA 98512

New Thought Bible Study Book Group | Saturdays, 9:30 - 10:45am (via Zoom)

For the curious, the doubtful and the wishful thinkers. Drop-ins always welcome.

Many people believe the best way to study the Bible is to read the Bible but maybe it’s not. Unity teaches that the Bible is the story of the evolution of consciousness; the changing awareness of humanity’s relationship with God and one another. The Fillmore’s (Unity’s founders) were more interested in the meaning behind the stories than whether the stories of the Bible were factual or not. Current biblical and archaeological scholarship offers us information that just wasn’t available a hundred years ago, or even fifty years ago. Join Rev. Terry on a new adventure in 2023 as we read texts from and about the Nag Hammadi library, the history of the Bible, and a few alternatives.

Register online to receive the Zoom login. Join us according to your schedule and interest!

Currently Reading: Beyond Belief - The Secret Gospels of Thomas – Elaine Pagels

The Gospel of Philip – Jean-Yves Leloup

The Gospel of Mary of Magdala – Karen L. King

How the Bible became the Bible – Donald L. O’Dell

    Alternatives – William L. Fischer

There's Room for One More - Dinners for 6 to 8

Would you like to be part of a monthly dinner group? The primary purpose is for personal connection over a meal.

Our first groups have been formed! There are several groups that are meeting according to their schedules. The dates listed here are not the only dates available. If you would like to join a group, please email us so we may get you going too!

Additionally, groups will be encouraged to have enough food so that an extra person (or maybe 2) new to our spiritual community could be invited for a single evening to get acquainted with more people and to see if Unity is a fit for them.

Join with Rev. Terry Murray and Lou Therrell in a book study on Evolution in the Bible, by Patricia Veenema, MDiv.

Purchase of the book is required and can be found in the following ways: Amazon for the Kindle, Balboa Press or Belle & Bauble for the paperback.

About the Book (from Balboa Press)

How can the God of the Old Testament be the same God of the New Testament? With an evolutionary lens, there is a reasonable answer to this question. At every stage of development, we can have an inspired understanding of the Divine, but our perception will be configured by our worldview or value system.

Like transparencies on an overhead projector, in this book we overlay two valuable tools: the model of the Documentary Hypothesis and the model of Spiral Dynamics, enabling us to view the God of the Hebrew Scriptures from an Integral perspective.

This book invites you to make peace with the God of the Old Testament while honoring the ancients. It helps you release the dogma of religion and gives space for you to evolve your understanding of God and awaken to an integral acceptance of the inevitable and necessary stages of human development.

Thurston County Food Project - Sharing Food. Building Community.

You want to help. We make it easy!

You are invited to join with us in partnering with the Thurston County Food Project to provide food for our community via donations for the Thurston County Food Bank. Unity of Olympia member, Karen Reddick and her three children have been involved in this project for several years in her own neighborhood and they are hoping to extend their reach even further by collecting bags of food from our Unity Community as well.

Here's how it works: When you sign-up, you will receive a Thurston County Food Project "Green Bag" to fill with food donations. Then on the first Sunday of every even month (February, April, June, August, October, and December) you bring your filled green bag to church with you and Karen and her children will exchange your bag with a new one, and take the food to the Food Bank for you. It's that simple!

And if you'd rather support either of these donation-run institutions with a monetary donation instead, that is welcomed, too. Just be sure to notate the program your donation is intended to support.

Below is a link to a recent Thurston Talk article that was written by Mary Ellen Psaltis about this project as well as a link to the Thurston County Food Project website if you'd like to learn more.

If you are interested in signing up to be a neighborhood coordinator to collect food from your own neighborhood, you can do that too!

Ready to join with us? Sign-up today!

Questions about our online system? Join us in this training for all things Unity in the digital world.

We'll discuss how to login to the website, manage your profile settings, view the online directory (available to Governing & Community Members only), sign-up for events, and manage your online donations. If you have specific questions please bring them with you. It will be most helpful if you include them in your registration so that we can be sure to have answers prepared if needed.

    PREPARE FOR LAUNCH

    June 8th & 15th 6:00 – 8:00 PM

Will you be a part of Launching the new Unity of Olympia?

Join us to participate in shaping the direction of our spiritual community as we go forward. Our world has changed a lot since the 1970’s and 80’s. Those were the golden years of church in America. Since then, more people are calling themselves “spiritual not religious” and Christianity has taken on a specific connotation in our culture that seems exclusive. What we claimed as New Thought teachings are becoming mainstream: meditation, mindfulness activities, and ideas like “Change your thoughts; Change your life” are promoted everywhere. The world has changed a lot – but church hasn’t.

Get the book Weird Church – Welcome to the Twenty-first Centuryby Beth Ann Estock and Paul Nixon. And read it before the 8th. These gatherings will be part book study and part minister’s report from the class I’m attending weekly - Integral Ministries. Register online. This will be an in-person gathering unless requests for zoom attendance are received in advance.
